Our Location

The Paley Institute is located at St. Mary's Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Florida, United States. Stature lengthening requires the patient to relocate for months at a time in order to receive proper treatment during the lengthening. Our amazing location in West Palm Beach offers patients a resort atmosphere year-round.

The Paley Institute is patient-centric, offering coordinated care with all necessary medical services, including new patient consultation, radiology, surgery, postoperative appointments, physical therapy, and lengthening, all in one single location. Our entire staff of physicians, physician assistants, nurses, physical and occupational therapists, orthopedic technologists, and office and support staff, all work in one building, allowing our staff to communicate quickly and effectively, ensuring the highest level of care for each of our patients throughout all stages of their treatment.

The Paley Method

The stature lengthening method at the Paley Institute is divided into two main phases: distraction phase and consolidation phase. Prior to surgery, patients are required to book an initial consultation. We need to assess you and ensure that you are as prepared as possible for this surgery. During the surgery, Dr. Paley will perform an osteotomy and your bone will be separated followed by insertion of the PRECICE lengthening nail. After surgery, lengthening will begin and you will enter the distraction phase. Once the desired length has been achieved, you will enter the consolidation phase. No further adjustments are made to the PRECICE and the new bone is allowed is allowed to heal. The PRECICE nail will be removed one to two years later, in a minor outpatient procedure.

The entire procedure includes the following steps:

  • Initial Consultation (Preparing for Surgery)
  • Surgery
  • Hospitalization
  • Distraction Phase
  • Physical Therapy
  • Consolidation Phase
  • Nail Removal

Patient Testimonial

"First of all I’d like to say that limb-lengthening surgery hasn’t made me happy. I don’t think it will make anyone happy; you have to start out that way. But what it has done is kept me from being robbed of that happiness on a daily basis. Like most people who are significantly shorter than average, I used to suffer from the continuous onslaught of prejudicial comments and disrespectful attitudes towards short people which abound in our media and permeate our culture. I’m no longer affected by those comments. I still empathize with those who are, but those comments no longer perturb my own personal happiness, and that has profoundly changed my life forever. "

Costs & Financial Considerations

Cosmetic surgery of any kind is not covered by medical insurance. Therefore, cost is probably the number one limiting factor for most individuals seeking cosmetic stature lengthening. The Paley Institute provides detailed cost estimates that cover most aspects of treatment including hospital fees, follow up appointments, x-rays, physical therapy, medical equipment, and transportation.

Potential Complications

No one wants unexpected problems, complications, and cost. For these reasons, we are very conservative regarding many aspects of the limb lengthening process. Dr. Paley is vigilant about anticipating problems and preventing complications. Many complications lead to additional surgery and therefore to additional costs.
